The Festival of Lights deserves lights that stay

Diwali is one of the biggest celebrations in the Sacramento region. In Folsom, Elk Grove, Roseville, Rancho Cordova and beyond, families light their homes for the five days of the festival — and whole streets glow.

The problem is timing. Diwali falls in October or November, just weeks before Christmas. That usually means hanging lights for Diwali, taking them down, and climbing back up for December — or paying a crew twice.

A permanent Minleon system ends that. Program warm diya gold, saffron, marigold and ruby for Diwali, schedule them to come on at sunset for all five nights, and switch to Christmas when you're ready. No ladders, nothing to store.

The Festival of Lights, explained

Diwali (Deepavali) is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and some Buddhists, and its name comes from 'rows of lamps'. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Celebrations usually run over five days in October or November, with Lakshmi Puja on the main night, when homes are cleaned, decorated with rangoli and lit with diyas so prosperity and blessings feel welcome.

Because lighting the home is literally at the heart of the festival, the roofline matters. Families often string lights for a week or more, visit friends to share mithai, and walk the neighborhood to see each other's houses — something that has grown fast in Folsom, Elk Grove, Rancho Cordova and Roseville.

Diwali color ideas that look authentic

We see three favorite looks: a steady diya gold that mimics oil lamps; saffron, marigold and deep red in alternating sections; and a slow 'twinkle' effect where single pixels flicker like flames. For Lakshmi Puja night many clients add a brighter, richer gold at the entry and over the door.

The app lets you schedule all five days in advance — Dhanteras through Bhai Dooj — so lights turn on at sunset each night even if you're busy cooking or hosting.

From Diwali straight into Christmas

Diwali usually falls a few weeks before Thanksgiving. With a permanent system there's no taking anything down: the same lights switch from saffron to Christmas red and green in one tap. That's a big reason many Diwali families choose permanent over seasonal rental lights.

Planning ahead for the festival

Because Diwali follows the lunar calendar, the date moves each year, usually somewhere between mid-October and mid-November. October is also one of our busiest install months, so families who want lights ready for Diwali usually book in late summer or early fall. With a permanent system, you book once and never worry about the date again.

We can program the five days in advance with a different look each night if you like: a gentle gold for Dhanteras, brighter for Choti Diwali, a full festive display for Lakshmi Puja, then softer tones through Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj.
